ATIVIDADE 3 DO 2º ANO DO NÍVEL MÉDIO 2020

 HIP HOP

Back in the days when slaves worked on plantations, afro American people used oral tradition to tell their history. As they transmitted the stories, they added more and more details to make the stories more exciting. This way of telling stories started hip hop.

The slaves used to sing to tell their stories and to express their feelings. Their songs were a form of rap music. They had no instruments: they used the beat of any object in their hands. They sang about anything they had on their minds: freedom, their native country, the moon, their loved ones, etc.

While one of them was singing, another slave joined in the song and added more worlds. Like rappers do.

“This type of music is popular because offers urban teens a chance to express their feelings.  Carla Monroe 16, California.

“There are very few rules in hip hop: just be original.  You can rap about anything.” Kylie Jones 15, Maryland.

“Hip hop is lifestyle.  It takes on many forms: cutting and scratching a record, break dancing, graffiti art…; it is going global due to the Internet. Duncan Roberts, 17, Cincinnatti.

Vocabulary:

freedom – liberdade

lifestyle – estilo de vida

rule – regra
